Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Project Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities within its Technology, Commercial & Industrial group — ranked #4 Overall in Power by Engineering News-Record (2025). This is a full-time, employee-owned company role based in Overland Park, Kansas.

Project Details

The team delivers engineering, procurement, and construction services across substations, renewables integration, HVDC/FACTS/STATCOM, data center integration, and BESS integration — supporting clients in advanced manufacturing, AI computing, gigafactories, and distributed infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for BESS facilities across EPC and design-services programs.
• Manage electrical engineering staff and oversee design quality, budget, and schedule.
• Prepare complex engineering calculations, deliverables, and equipment/materials recommendations.
• Delegate tasks to junior team members, review their work, and actively mentor lower-level professionals.
• Coordinate with internal and external interdisciplinary teams on moderately complex projects.
• Support business development activities and build relationships with clients to understand their needs.
• Ensure compliance with B&V quality program standards and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum 5 years of related electrical engineering experience.
• Consulting experience; BESS project experience preferred.
• EPC execution experience preferred.
• Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) license in a U.S. jurisdiction preferred.
• Strong communication skills with both internal teams and external clients and construction teams.

Compensation and Benefits
