Project Engineer I

Job Summary

Mortenson is hiring a Project Engineer I to support field coordination and project delivery at assigned sites in North Dakota. The role requires full-time on-site presence, with most assignments within 90 miles of Fargo and occasional travel beyond that area.

Responsibilities

• Clarify plans and specifications for subcontractors and craft teams, and help resolve field coordination issues.
• Manage project quality processes, inspections, testing records, permits, and construction documentation.
• Coordinate submittals, RFIs, change orders, contract documents, and project closeout materials.
• Monitor schedules, communicate quality issues to project leadership, and support safe, compliant field operations.
• Guide field engineers and help identify alternative work methods when needed.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in construction, civil or architectural engineering, or construction management.
• At least two years of related construction experience.
• Strong organization, communication, teamwork, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
• Basic understanding of construction law and business practices, and a current driver’s license.

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay is $84,100-$113,500, with the actual range adjusted for certain office locations. The role is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
