Job Summary

The Weitz Company is seeking a Project Engineer I to support commercial and mission-critical construction projects at jobsites in Cedar Rapids or Des Moines, Iowa. The role works under the Project Manager and contributes across planning, procurement, project controls, execution, and closeout.

Project Details

The Iowa Business Unit delivers commercial and mission-critical work, including data center projects. The position is jobsite-based and supports project schedule, budget, documentation, and coordination activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain construction drawings, project documents, logs, RFIs, submittals, buyouts, and subcontractor status records.
  • Review submittals and documentation against project plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate inspections, compliance audits, non-conformance tracking, material deliveries, and project meetings.
  • Support subcontract scopes, purchase orders, change requests, pricing, change orders, and schedule management.
  • Assist with closeout activities, punch lists, as-built documentation, and warranty administration.

Required Experience

  • At least two years of project engineering experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Industry-related college degree.
  • Experience leading, teaching, developing, or mentoring others.
  • Data center experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Apple devices; experience with Procore, JDE, and Asta is preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, prioritization, analytical, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
