Job Summary

The Weitz Company is seeking a Project Engineer to support industrial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. The position is based in the Des Moines office, with mechanical construction experience preferred and travel or relocation required as project assignments dictate.

Project Details

This role supports industrial construction work and may involve mechanical project coordination, virtual design tools, project documentation, procurement, and closeout activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain construction drawings, project documents, logs, and records.
  • Coordinate requests for information, submittals, inspections, compliance audits, and non-conformance tracking.
  • Monitor material and equipment deliveries and assist with subcontract scopes and purchase orders.
  • Track subcontractor change requests, obtain pricing, and prepare change orders within assigned authority.
  • Use virtual design tools to support project coordination.
  • Manage punch list and closeout information, prepare as-built documentation, and support warranty activities.
  • Monitor project status and escalate schedule or budget issues to the project team.

Required Experience

  • An industry-related degree is required.
  • Two or more years of construction project management experience is preferred.
  • Industrial construction and LEAN principles experience are preferred.
  • OSHA 30 is preferred, or the candidate must be willing to obtain it after hire.
  • Strong initiative, problem-solving, communication, organization, and relationship-building skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook is expected, along with the ability to learn project-specific software.
