Job Summary

The Weitz Company is seeking a Project Manager II to manage multiple medium-sized commercial construction projects or one large project in Des Moines. This role works closely with the Project Superintendent and oversees administrative and field construction activities with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, including long-lead item tracking and corrective updates.
  • Negotiate and execute change orders, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
  • Prepare project status reports, owner billings, and financial risk assessments.
  • Identify value engineering, scope reduction, and constructability opportunities.
  • Coordinate project safety planning and communication with project teams and subcontractors.
  • Support preconstruction, procurement, and buyout activities.
  • Monitor contract requirements, budgets, insurance, bonds, change orders, and work within scope.
  • Support staff development, assignments, promotions, and performance decisions.

Required Experience

  • At least five years of commercial construction experience, including project management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, teaching, developing, and mentoring team members.
  • Industry-related college degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, leadership, client-relations, decision-making, conflict-resolution, analytical, and construction-management skills.
  • Experience with or ability to learn project management and scheduling platforms such as JDE, Procore, Bluebeam, and Asta.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency is required.
