Staff Mechanical Engineer Industrial Water

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to serve as a Project Discipline Engineer for industrial water and wastewater projects. This employee-owner role leads mechanical design teams and supports projects from planning through construction.

Project Details

Projects may include industrial water and wastewater treatment, water reuse, desalination, utility infrastructure, and treatment systems supporting data centers. Mechanical scopes include pumps, compressors, blowers, aeration systems, piping, valves, packaged treatment equipment, storage tanks, and standby power systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering teams while managing scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
• Direct development of P&IDs, equipment layouts, piping isometrics, equipment data sheets, and technical specifications.
• Guide equipment sizing and performance calculations, and review vendor and contractor technical submittals.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and project stakeholders while serving as the Responsible Engineer for assigned systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and support equipment procurement, design coordination, and construction activities.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 5 years of related experience; approximately 10 years of similar experience is preferred.
• Experience designing industrial water, wastewater, desalination, or treatment facilities.
• Knowledge of pumping systems, pipe hydraulics, pressure-loss calculations, piping and equipment sizing, and material selection.
• Experience with procurement, vendor evaluations, technical specifications, FEL design, and multidisciplinary engineering leadership is preferred.
• Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer-of-record requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

Published annual compensation ranges vary by jurisdiction, from $114,930 to $211,134.
