Job Summary
PCL Civil Constructors is seeking a Structural Steel Superintendent to lead field execution for complex transportation infrastructure projects. The initial assignment is in Slidell, Louisiana, with potential travel and relocation for future projects.
Project Details
PCL’s Transportation Infrastructure Group delivers highway and railroad bridge construction and rehabilitation, along with roadway, port, and industrial work. This role focuses on structural steel operations for transportation structures, including erection and engineered crane lifts.
Responsibilities
- Lead structural steel erection, including rigging, signaling, fit-up, bolting, torquing, welding, field modifications, and coatings.
- Manage ironworkers, welders, rigging crews, and specialty subcontractors while overseeing critical crane lifts.
- Implement site safety procedures, project execution plans, schedules, quality controls, and resource-loaded lookahead plans.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager, clients, consultants, subcontractors, labor representatives, and project teams.
- Track progress, maintain project documentation, manage risks, and provide daily and weekly reporting.
Required Experience
- At least 10 years of construction experience, including 5 or more years in structural steel erection and progressive field supervision.
- Experience with DOT or railroad bridge construction or rehabilitation; movable bridge experience is preferred.
- Journeyman certification or a related undergraduate degree is preferred.
- Ability to interpret structural and mechanical drawings, coordinate multiple work scopes, develop schedules, and manage multidisciplinary crews.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, safety and environmental requirements, contracts, productivity, labor reporting, rigging, and heavy equipment operations.
- Successful completion of a project-required pre-employment criminal history screening.
