Job Summary

Superintendent I directs daily construction operations, supervises crews and subcontractors, and serves as the primary field coordinator for project stakeholders. This is the fifth level in an eight-level construction career series.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects exceeding $1 million with multiple subcontractors and crews of five or more.
  • Plan work phases, coordinate staffing and subcontractor activities, and develop three-week look-ahead schedules.
  • Direct field production, inspect layouts and completed work, and maintain schedule, quality, and cost performance.
  • Supervise employees, provide training, evaluate performance, approve time records, and recommend staffing actions.
  • Coordinate with project managers, owners, architects, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to resolve issues and prevent delays.
  • Maintain job logs, equipment records, material inventories, site tools, and required project documentation.
  • Lead site safety activities, enforce company policies, support OSHA compliance, and conduct crew safety meetings.
  • Remain available during crew and subcontractor working hours and perform field construction tasks when not assigned to a project.

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Eight years of progressively responsible construction and equipment operation experience, including two years of lead experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of construction techniques and self-performed carpentry, concrete, steel erection, and millwright work.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering plans, coordinate work, supervise personnel, inspect safety conditions, and manage materials.
  • Valid driver's license and compliance with company motor vehicle standards.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work, including occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds with team assistance.
