Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking an entry-level Safety Specialist for its Eastern District to support field safety programs on heavy civil, transportation, and energy projects. The role reports to a Project Safety Manager and helps implement site-specific safety requirements.

Project Details

The Eastern District delivers bridge, transit, foundation, tunnel, water and wastewater, structural steel, earthwork, pile driving, caisson, and energy-sector work across the Northeast and other assigned locations.

Responsibilities

• Help develop, update, communicate, and implement site-specific safety plans with employees and subcontractors.
• Work with craft and operations teams to identify hazards, prioritize corrective actions, and reinforce safety ownership.
• Exercise stop-work authority when work does not comply with policies, regulations, or approved plans.
• Complete documented daily hazard inspections and review work plans before work begins.
• Support incident investigations, project safety records, first aid coordination, and relationships with medical providers.
• Assist with safety training covering company procedures, OSHA and MSHA requirements, NCCER, SIMS, orientations, and client standards.

Required Experience

• OSHA 30, OSHA 500, and OSHA 510 certifications.
• Construction safety knowledge and familiarity with applicable federal and OSHA requirements.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong communication, organization, time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
• A degree in occupational health and safety, environmental safety, public health, or a related field is preferred.
• Safety professional or Emergency Medical Technician certification is preferred.
• Ability to access all areas of a construction site and work independently or as part of a team.
• Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime, weekends, and changing site conditions as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation is $72,000-$85,000 per year. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement matching, and paid time off.
