Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Construction Manager to coordinate small substation construction projects in South Carolina. This project-only, full-time role oversees schedule, safety, cost, quality, staffing, and field execution in coordination with project and operations leadership.

Project Details

The position supports substation construction and power-grid infrastructure, including site installation, equipment and material coordination, subcontractor activities, constructability reviews, and project risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide construction teams with the means, methods, staffing, tools, and equipment required for substation work.
  • Develop and maintain safety, quality, construction, and job hazard analysis programs.
  • Monitor productivity, progress, quantities, costs, schedules, timesheets, and payment requests.
  • Coordinate resources, resolve field issues, support proposals and subcontract development, and identify out-of-scope work or potential back charges.
  • Build effective working relationships with clients and subcontractors while supporting risk reviews, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.

Required Experience

  • Substation construction experience and at least 3 years of construction supervisory experience are required.
  • A bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, or a related field is preferred; relevant field experience may be considered.
  • Construction Manager-level or higher experience in a substation environment is preferred, along with knowledge of project controls, budgets, risk management, and construction management systems.
  • OSHA training is required. Transmission line craft experience and bilingual Spanish skills are preferred.
  • Must be able to complete applicable background, drug-screen, and motor-vehicle-record checks.

Work Environment
